In actuality, Sissel is a cat who belonged to the man he identified as himself, and his only friend for ten years. He was in the bag that Yomiel was carrying that night and was accidentally shot while Yomiel was manipulating Lynne. Though he later erases Yomiel's death, his past self ends up getting killed by the Temsik fragment and he gets to keep his ghost tricks as well as his body, which is frozen forever as a kitten.

Lynne (リンネ Lynne) is a rookie detective working alone on a case tonight. After being targeted by hitmen and saved by Sissel, she teams up with him so they can help each other with their individual tasks. She lives in an apartment with a little girl named Kamila and a dog named Missile.
Name meaning: "Rinne" is the Japanese word for Samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth.

Ray (クネリ Kuneri) appears before Sissel as a desk lamp and teaches him about his ghost tricks. When Sissel realises he's lost his memory, Ray tells him to help out Lynne as she is the key to his memories. He also informs Sissel that he will disappear by daybreak.
Name meaning: "Kuneru" is a Japanese word meaning to wriggle/flex/bend.

In actuality, Ray is an older Missile from a timeline in which Lynne and Kamila died. When that timeline's Sissel refused to help him, being only interested in recovering his lost memory, Missile chased after Yomiel. Yomiel had been there in the apartment when Missile and Kamila were killed, inadvertently giving Missile ghost tricks. Missile ended up in the submarine's control room with Yomiel's corpse and went back ten years to the time of Yomiel's death. There, he waited until that fateful night came round so that he could coerce Sissel into helping him.

Kamila (カノン Kanon) is a young girl who lives with Lynne and Missile. She ends up in danger when a hitman comes to the apartment, but Sissel manages to save her. She then leaves to go and deliver an important music box to Lynne.
Name meaning: "Kannon" is the Japanese word for Guanyin, the bodhisattva associated with compassion. It is also a pun on "cannon", which fits with Missile.

Missile (ミサイル Missile) is Lynne and Kamila's pet Pomeranian, who Sissel has to save after he gets shot by a hitman. He is intensely loyal to his mistresses and swears to protect them. After bidding farewell to Sissel, he decides to make his own path.
Name meaning: Missile is named for the creator Shu Takumi's Pomeranian, also named Missile.

Inspector Cabanela (カバネラ警部 Inspector Cabanela) is the head of the Special Investigation Unit. He is particularly fond of Lynne. It is rumoured that he only cares about his spotless record.
Name Meaning: His name is derived from "shikabane", the Japanese word for corpse.

Jowd (ジョード Jowd) is one of the prisoners at the Special Prison. He was sent to jail for murdering his wife in front of a family member.
Name Meaning: "Joudo" is the Buddhist term for "pure land".

The junkyard superintendent, nicknamed "Pigeon Man". His pigeon is named Lovey-Dove (ドバト Dobato).

The justice minister (オッチンドル Otchindoru) is a deeply troubled man who wants his wife and daughter to come back home.
Name Meaning: "Otchindoru" comes from the Japanese phrase "Osshindoru" meaning "Oh! He's dead".

Emma (エンマ Emma) is the wife of the Justice Minister, who moved out with her daughter and refuses to answer her husband's calls. She works frantically on her novel through the night, trying to complete it before the deadline. Barking dogs are a great nuisance to her.
Name Meaning: "Enma" is the Buddhist term for Yama, the lord of death.

Amelie (エイミン Eimin) is the daughter of Emma and the Justice Minister. She is sick with a fever and unable to go out to her lesson tonight.
Name Meaning: "Eimin" means "eternal sleep" in Japanese.

This mysterious person is involved in many strange things happening in this town tonight.

Yomiel (ヨミエル Yomiel) is the true owner of the body Sissel mistakes as his. His ghost powers include manipulating objects and living things/corpses, and travelling through phone lines.
Name Meaning: Yomiel comes from the Japanese word "yomigaeru", meaning to revive.

Ten years ago, Yomiel was a top systems programmer. He was invited onto a project involving national secrets and ended up being suspected of being a spy. Cabanela interrogated him harshly, causing him to lose hope then accidentally left his gun, giving Yomiel the means to escape. Jowd chased him down, driving him to take Lynne hostage and end up being struck down by a fragment of a falling meteorite. Yomiel received ghost tricks and his body became a shell trapped between life and death.

After dying, Yomiel lived in the body of a stray kitten before recovering his memories. He retrieved his body and hurried to see his fiancee, only to find she had ended her life to join him. Yomiel named the kitten Sissel after her. A lonely existence followed, driving Yomiel to kill Jowd's wife and make Jowd feel the same pain. Years later, Yomiel sought out revenge against those he blamed for his death, with the assistance of an organization. He made a deal with them, the source of his powers and his co-operation in erasing those who knew of Temsik in exchange for a new life.

The organization ended up betraying Yomiel and stealing the Temsik fragment. He abandons his plans for revenge and travels into the past with Sissel, Missile and Jowd. Together, they create a new ten years where he lives.

Commander Sith (シス司令 Commander Sith) is responsile for ordering the hit on Lynne. He seems to work for an organization.
Name Meaning: "Sith" comes from the Japanese word "shisu", meaning to die.

Sith struck a deal with Yomiel, promising a new life in exchange for the fragment. He was actually plotting to betray Yomiel and steal the fragment all along. Sith destroys the submarine, leaving Yomiel stranded in the sea along with everyone else, even going so far as to separate him from his body.

Commander Sith's adjutant who performs various tasks for him by banging on a control panel.

He is left in the command room with Jowd when it is ejected from the submarine. When Jowd points out he is trapped too, he reveals he is a remote controlled robot, before gunning Jowd down.

Nearsighted Jeego (ド近眼のジーゴ Nearsighted Jeego) is the first hitman who comes to kill Lynne.
Name Meaning: "jigoku" is Japanese for "hell".

He is killed when Sissel drops a wrecking ball on him and it rolls away never to be seen again.

"One Step Ahead" Tengo (先回りのテンゴ One Step Ahead Tengo) is the second hitman assigned to kill Lynne. He comes into her apartment, shoots Missile and ties Kamila up.
Name Meaning: "tengoku" is Japanese for "heaven".

When he learns Lynne is still at the junkyard, he heads there to kill her. Sissel disposes of him by dropping a heavy crate on his head.

Beauty (ビューティー Beauty) is one half of a suspicious couple dining at the Chicken Kitchen.

She is actually working for the organization and is involved in the kidnapping of the justice minister's daughter. It seems that she can sense the powers of the dead, though this is never elaborated on.

Dandy (ダンディー Dandy) is the other half of the suspicious couple.

He is working with Beauty on the kidnapping. Dandy runs over Missile in the park and carries out the kidnapping of Kamila.

The medical examiner who comes to look over Sissel's body.

He is a fake medical examiner who is actually supposed to take Yomiel's "shell" away and meet up with him later to return it but Cabanela figures him out and bribes him to smuggle the body to the superintendent's office instead.

Detective Rindge (リンジュ刑事 Detective Rindge) is performing a stakeout in the park on Cabanela's orders.
Name Meaning: "rinju" is a Japanese word meaning deathbed.

He is actually staking out "Point X" (The Chicken Kitchen), waiting for the manipulator to show up. When Lynne shows up instead, he races there and ends up in a fatal accident which Sissel is able to avert. Spends the rest of the night looking out for Kamila at Lynne's request.

Memry (メメリ Memry) is a waitress who works at The Chicken Kitchen.
Name Meaning: Her name comes from the Latin phrase "memento mori", meaning "remember you will die".

In actuality, she is an undercover detective. She causes a major catastrophe by planting a bug on the chicken she brings to the suspicious couple. According to Rindge, she is known as the "Lynne" of the Special Investigation Unit.

Detective McCaw (マッコー刑事 Detective McCaw) is one of the detectives who attend the crime scene.
Name Meaning: His name comes from "makkou", the Japanese word for incense powder.

Officer Bailey (ボーズ係官 Officer Bozu) is a police officer working at the Special Prison. When in a panic, he likes to dance.
Name Meaning: "Bouzu" is a Japanese word meaning bonze, an old word for a Buddhist clergy.


A police officer who works in the same office as Bailey. He busies himself with building a house of cards on his desk. Making fun of Bailey is one of his favourite pastimes.

A police officer assigned to watching Lynne. He gets shouted at when Lynne escapes under his watch and becomes depressed.

Prisoner C74 (囚人番号「C74号」) is one of the Special Prison inmates. He broke into the chief commissioner's office with a flamethrower and took him hostage, demanding five bowls of curry.

He was actually manipulated by Yomiel, who wanted to prove the existence of his powers to the organization.

Prisoner C38 (囚人番号「C38号」) is another inmate of the Special Prison. His band was supposed to be singing a song called "Secret Rendezvous" but during the encore, he started singing out national secrets on live television.

He was another victim of Yomiel's manipulation.

The Chicken Kitchen's chef is very much in love with chicken and even sings out his love for chicken while he cooks it.


The bartender of the Chicken Kitchen. He is always polishing glasses.


The park's protector (ダビラ Dabira) is trying to get people to help prevent the park from being turning into a housing site. He is somewhat of a reckless youth.
Name Meaning: "Dabi" is Japanese for "cremation"

Ten years ago, he witnessed Yomiel's death by Temsik and believed it to be the work of the gods. Ever since that day, he swore to protect the meteorite, also known as the "Rock of the Gods".

Alma (アルマ Alma) is also the mother of Kamila. She was actually killed when Yomiel manipulated Kamila's contraption.
