Sissel (シセル Sissel) is the protagonist of the game. He wakes up to see his corpse, and a woman being held at gunpoint. A ghost named Ray, who takes on the form of a desk lamp, guides him to save the woman, Lynne. He soon realises that he has lost his memory and sets out to find who he is and why he was killed. His powers include manipulating objects, travelling through telephone lines and replaying the last four minutes before death.
Name meaning: "Shiseru" is a Japanese word, meaning "dead"


Lynne (リンネ Lynne) is a rookie detective working alone on a case tonight. After being targeted by hitmen and saved by Sissel, she teams up with him so they can help each other with their individual tasks. She lives in an apartment with a little girl named Kamila and a dog named Missile.
Name meaning: "Rinne" is the Japanese word for Samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth.


Ray (クネリ Kuneri) appears before Sissel as a desk lamp and teaches him about his ghost tricks. When Sissel realises he's lost his memory, Ray tells him to help out Lynne as she is the key to his memories. He also informs Sissel that he will disappear by daybreak.
Name meaning: "Kuneru" is a Japanese word meaning to wriggle/flex/bend.


Kamila (カノン Kanon) is a young girl who lives with Lynne and Missile. She ends up in danger when a hitman comes to the apartment, but Sissel manages to save her. She then leaves to go and deliver an important music box to Lynne.
Name meaning: "Kannon" is the Japanese word for Guanyin, the bodhisattva associated with compassion. It is also a pun on "cannon", which fits with Missile.


Missile (ミサイル Missile) is Lynne and Kamila's pet Pomeranian, who Sissel has to save after he gets shot by a hitman. He is intensely loyal to his mistresses and swears to protect them. After bidding farewell to Sissel, he decides to make his own path.
Name meaning: Missile is named for the creator Shu Takumi's Pomeranian, also named Missile.


Inspector Cabanela (カバネラ警部 Inspector Cabanela) is the head of the Special Investigation Unit. He is particularly fond of Lynne. It is rumoured that he only cares about his spotless record.
Name Meaning: His name is derived from "shikabane", the Japanese word for corpse.


Jowd (ジョード Jowd) is one of the prisoners at the Special Prison. He was sent to jail for murdering his wife in front of a family member.
Name Meaning: "Joudo" is the Buddhist term for "pure land".


The junkyard superintendent, nicknamed "Pigeon Man". His pigeon is named Lovey-Dove (ドバト Dobato).


The justice minister (オッチンドル Otchindoru) is a deeply troubled man who wants his wife and daughter to come back home.
Name Meaning: "Otchindoru" comes from the Japanese phrase "Osshindoru" meaning "Oh! He's dead".


Emma (エンマ Emma) is the wife of the Justice Minister, who moved out with her daughter and refuses to answer her husband's calls. She works frantically on her novel through the night, trying to complete it before the deadline. Barking dogs are a great nuisance to her.
Name Meaning: "Enma" is the Buddhist term for Yama, the lord of death.


Amelie (エイミン Eimin) is the daughter of Emma and the Justice Minister. She is sick with a fever and unable to go out to her lesson tonight.
Name Meaning: "Eimin" means "eternal sleep" in Japanese.

Commander Sith (シス司令 Commander Sith) is responsile for ordering the hit on Lynne. He seems to work for an organization.
Name Meaning: "Sith" comes from the Japanese word "shisu", meaning to die.


Commander Sith's adjutant who performs various tasks for him by banging on a control panel.


Nearsighted Jeego (ド近眼のジーゴ Nearsighted Jeego) is the first hitman who comes to kill Lynne.
Name Meaning: "jigoku" is Japanese for "hell".


"One Step Ahead" Tengo (先回りのテンゴ One Step Ahead Tengo) is the second hitman assigned to kill Lynne. He comes into her apartment, shoots Missile and ties Kamila up.
Name Meaning: "tengoku" is Japanese for "heaven".


Beauty (ビューティー Beauty) is one half of a suspicious couple dining at the Chicken Kitchen.


Dandy (ダンディー Dandy) is the other half of the suspicious couple.


The medical examiner who comes to look over Sissel's body.

Detective Rindge (リンジュ刑事 Detective Rindge) is performing a stakeout in the park on Cabanela's orders.
Name Meaning: "rinju" is a Japanese word meaning deathbed.


Memry (メメリ Memry) is a waitress who works at The Chicken Kitchen.
Name Meaning: Her name comes from the Latin phrase "memento mori", meaning "remember you will die".



Detective McCaw (マッコー刑事 Detective McCaw) is one of the detectives who attend the crime scene.
Name Meaning: His name comes from "makkou", the Japanese word for incense powder.


The other detective who attends the crime scene.


Officer Bailey (ボーズ係官 Officer Bozu) is a police officer working at the Special Prison. When in a panic, he likes to dance.
Name Meaning: "Bouzu" is a Japanese word meaning bonze, an old word for a Buddhist clergy.


A police officer who works in the same office as Bailey. He busies himself with building a house of cards on his desk. Making fun of Bailey is one of his favourite pastimes.

A police officer assigned to watching Lynne. He gets shouted at when Lynne escapes under his watch and becomes depressed.

Prisoner C74 (囚人番号「C74号」) is one of the Special Prison inmates. He broke into the chief commissioner's office with a flamethrower and took him hostage, demanding five bowls of curry.


Prisoner C38 (囚人番号「C38号」) is another inmate of the Special Prison. His band was supposed to be singing a song called "Secret Rendezvous" but during the encore, he started singing out national secrets on live television.


The Chicken Kitchen's chef is very much in love with chicken and even sings out his love for chicken while he cooks it.


The bartender of the Chicken Kitchen. He is always polishing glasses.


The park's protector (ダビラ Dabira) is trying to get people to help prevent the park from being turning into a housing site. He is somewhat of a reckless youth.
